JK-00 Joker by Omar Gonzales

Omar G. is back with a unique mech that has his signature design but with really awesome color scheme! While his last mech was still based on the reFrame skeleton I had designed, this newer mech is now based on his own frame (which he’s dubbed as the MFrame) and has slightly different proportions that’s closer to Omar’s signature sleek style.

My first impression of this build was really just the excellent color scheme. It just blew me away how well this build is color blocked with alternating complementary cyan and magenta accents, nice chunks of black and white to really get the accent colors popping, and the hints of yellow and orange to just complete the look.

As always, Omar exhibits mastery in his shaping by giving us a really sleek S-shaped body, powerful yet slim legs and feet, and compact shoulders. He’s also done a nice job providing his mech a nice weapon loadout, giving the Joker a katana and a hand cannon.

What really made me happy was that Omar even went through the extra effort of providing a backstory to his mech that fits inside the Mech Wars scenario.

As written in his Flickr post:

A stolen prototype of the Marzan Empire, was originally intended to be the queen’s Guard base model, but after some tests, it was deemed unstable, very hard to pilot properly and with a high Quorus consume, even for the empire standards, but was indeed very strong used by a very skilled pilot. It featured a prototype Mframe technology, which was discarded after this project was unsuccessful.

You can find more in the description of his build over at Flickr.

He also posted an earlier sketch of the build and seeing this, it’s clear how much thought and planning Omar puts into each of his builds and how he executes them quite nicely.

For those interested in LEGO mech building, I put out an eBook over at Amazon Kindle a while back called Mech Wars Instructional Primer. If you’re looking for a resource that could help you start or even improve your mech building skills, you might find this eBook useful 🙂
